United Visual Artists

UVA works a lot with light, they create very interesting installations with are eye catching. Theire work really inspired me on how working with light can create an experience.

UVA - Array

Array is a field of columns set in the courtyard of the Chuya Nakahara Memorial Museum in Southern Japan.

The columns create a field of light and sound, gently shifting in response to the viewers’ movements via a hidden network of ultrasonic sensors. Each column is lit by a pure, shimmering white light. This forest of light light calls you in, and its response to movement invites to explore. Inside the grid lives a spirit, in the form of a single pure red light. This spirit is timid but often playful, revealing itself boldly then disappearing.

UVA - Chorus

An installation they did in a cathedral.

With Chorus UVA created a kinetic installation that produces a hypnotic performance. Eight tall black pendulums swing back and forth, simultaneously emitting light and sound.

UVA - Rien a Cacher Rien a Craindre

As the first artists in residence at la Gaîté lyrique in Paris, UVA created Rien a Cacher / Rien a Craindre, a series of responsive light and sound installations that together seduced and unsettled visitors in a unique way.

Exploring the unexamined assumption that digital technology is moving us towards utopia, UVA created a visitor experience simultaneously celebrating and critiquing the brave new world of the digital.

UVA - Speed of Light

Commissioned by Virgin Media, UVA created Speed of Light to celebrate 10 years of broadband Internet.

In April 2010, the installation took over all four storeys of the industrial art-space Bargehouse on the Thames riverside for a period of 10 days. Visitors were invited to immerse themselves in a massive labyrinth of laser sculptures, built on the idea of speed being light, and light
being data.

UVA - Y3

As part of New York Fashion Week 2010, UVA created a light installation for the Y-3 fall 2010 fashion show. A clean, sharp performance was designed for Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto’s innovative Y-3 brand.
